Weekend Modular

22–24 May 2026 — Cornwall

3–5 July 2026 — Yorkshire

From patching solo to discovering modular together

For experienced users and those patching for the first time

Upcoming Dates:

3–5 July. Fri 4pm – Sun 3pm
Mylar Melodies,  Giggleswick, North Yorkshire.
Weekend Modular is a new series of small collaborative workshops from Dyski for anyone interested in exploring modular music-making. Each weekend brings together a small group of musicians, from experienced users to complete beginners, to share a house, meals and music while learning, improvising and creating side by side.

The series is designed to help people move from patching alone to discovering modular together. Guided by a guest artist, you will explore improvisation and live performance techniques in a relaxed and supportive setting, finding new ways to shape sound and new approaches to your own practice.

Across the weekend you will have space to experiment, expand your ideas and build lasting connections. You might arrive with familiar habits and leave with a refreshed perspective shaped by shared exploration and the simple joy of making music with others.

All levels are welcome. Experienced users will find likeminded collaborators and newcomers will find encouragement and guidance. Weekend Modular is a space for connection through music-making, free from pressure or expectation, and hosted in different locations across the UK. It offers time to listen, to make and to return home renewed.

You Will Leave With:

  • New ideas and fresh approaches to your music-making
  • Hands-on experience with modular systems, even if it is your first time
  • A creative reset that renews your process and sparks new directions

July 3–5 with Mylar Melodies

We're heading to Giggleswick in North Yorkshire for this one.

Friday evening opens with a guided demo from Mylar Melodies, offering insight into how he approaches sound, structure and play within a modular system. He will walk through his process, what he listens for, what he adjusts and how a patch evolves.

A short Q&A follows, and throughout the weekend Mylar will be on hand for anyone looking for feedback, direction or a fresh perspective on their setup.

Across the weekend he will spend time with participants as they explore their own instruments, offering practical advice, suggesting approaches and helping people build a more intuitive and confident relationship with their patches. His teaching style is open, encouraging and grounded in long experience.

If you haven't seen it, Mylar's video Explaining the best live modular I've made so far is full of tips and techniques for improvising with modular.

Music Thing Modular

Weekend Modular is created with the support of Music Thing Modular. Each weekend includes access to Tom Whitwell's Workshop Systems, originally designed for the first Dyski Sound Maps residency in 2024.

The Workshop System is a compact and open-ended modular instrument that is easy to learn and rewarding to explore. It is patchable, adaptable and works with whatever you already use, from a phone or laptop to pedals or a drum machine.

These systems are available for everyone throughout the weekend and sit alongside other modular setups you are welcome to explore.

A special thank you to Tom Whitwell for making this possible.

Immersive, place-based workshops and residencies.

Focused on process, experimentation, and learning through practice.

Pronounced ['dɪski], a Cornish verb meaning to learn, or to teach.

Dyski runs residencies and workshops for musicians, composers, writers, sound artists and anyone working at the edges of their practice.

We work primarily in Cornwall, UK and occasionally further afield, led by practitioners across experimental music, sound art, modular synthesis, audiovisual performance, field recording, electroacoustic composition, writing and expanded creative practice.

Our residencies emphasise process, experimentation and close engagement with place, with funded places available to support access.
