Dyski was founded in 2024 by Dion Star
Dyski runs immersive, place-based workshops and residencies for musicians and sound artists. These take place in small groups, over fixed periods of time, with an emphasis on immersion, iteration, and working closely with the conditions of a place.
Each Dyski residency is developed as a collaboration between Dion and the workshop or residency lead. Rather than working toward a single outcome, the focus is on creating conditions where people can experiment, move quickly, try things out, and better understand their own creative practice.
Food, care, and shared time are treated as part of the experience rather than as support around it. When meals are prepared and practical details are handled, people are left with time and attention to focus on what they have come to do.
Each residency includes funded places to support access for people who need financial help to attend.
While Dyski’s residencies are primarily focused on music and sound, the approach is not discipline-bound, and occasional residencies extend into writing and other creative practices.
Dion is a multidisciplinary artist, writer, and musician whose practice spans visual art, performance, and sound. He created the poster artwork and titles for the feature films Bait and Enys Men, co-authored Creativity Begins With You, and taught at Falmouth University for 12 years. He has presented internationally in Denmark, Finland, Germany, and the UK. As a musician, he crafts ambient soundscapes and collaborates with filmmaker Mark Jenkin as part of The Cornish Sound Unit. Recently, he toured with Ben Howard, celebrating the 10th anniversary of I Forget Where We Were.
Dion works closely with each residency lead and is actively involved in shaping how the residencies are run and experienced.
