A week-long creative residency rooted in the wild beauty of west Cornwall. Brought to life through a collaboration between Dyski and Zennor Sounds, this immersive experience invites composers, musicians, and sound artists to explore the art of film scoring through deep listening, collaboration, and sonic experimentation. Set in the atmospheric village of Zennor, perched between moorland and sea, the residency draws on the elemental power of the landscape to shape a collective cinematic sound world.
Taking place at Zennor Sounds, a world-class Dolby Atmos studio nestled in the ancient granite landscape of West Penwith, the residency weaves together group collaboration and individual exploration. Each day, guest artists will feed into the process, bringing distinct perspectives on sound and cinema. These include film composers, foley artists, directors, and sound designers. Mornings will open with their insights, sparking ideas that unfold through hands-on experimentation in the studio.
By the end of the week, participants will have contributed to a shared soundtrack or a short film and developed a personal sound piece to take away.
What the Week Involves
Collaborative Film Score
Working together in Zennor Sounds’ Dolby Atmos mix room, the group will create a collective score for a short film.
Guest Artist Sessions
Each morning begins with a session led by a guest artist, grounding the day in a new creative focus. These encounters will shape the week’s rhythm, offering tools, provocations, and perspectives on the many forms of cinematic sound. Guest artists to be announced soon.
Individual Sound Work
Alongside the group score, each participant will craft a personal composition or sound-based piece. These individual works will take full advantage of the studio’s capabilities while reflecting each artist’s unique response to the residency.
Atmos Mixing and Spatial Sound
Participants will explore the creative possibilities of Dolby Atmos, using spatial audio to experiment with depth, movement, and texture in three dimensions.
Field Recording and Environment
The landscape surrounding Zennor will act as both setting and instrument. Participants will gather field recordings and ambient sounds from the coastal paths, moorland, and village, grounding the project in the atmosphere of West Penwith.
